Imphal : : March 13 :  : In a significant development amid Manipur’s ongoing ethnic unrest, six Naga MLAs—Awangbow Newmai, Khashim Vashum, Losii Dikho, Leishiyo Keishing, J. Kumo Sha, and Janghemlung Panmei—met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The meeting focused on the state’s escalating tensions between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, which have triggered violence and disrupted normalcy. The MLAs assured their cooperation in fostering peace and expressed confidence in the Governor’s leadership to restore stability.

Manipur has been gripped by ethnic strife, with the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities at odds. The Governor has pushed to reopen highways for free movement, aiming to ease tensions and enable dialogue. However, this initiative has met fierce resistance from the Kuki-Zo, who demand a separate administration. Their indefinite highway blockade has intensified the crisis, while recent clashes with security forces enforcing movement left one protester dead and several injured on both sides.

The Naga MLAs’ involvement is noteworthy, as Nagas are seen as a neutral community capable of mediating between the warring groups. Their pledge to support peace efforts offers hope for reconciliation in a deeply divided state. While the Governor strives to bridge gaps, the Kuki-Zo’s opposition and the blockade pose significant hurdles. This meeting signals a collaborative intent, though its impact on resolving the unrest remains uncertain. For now, it stands as a step toward dialogue in a turbulent landscape.
