joins its affiliate Shramjivi Patrakar Union Uttar Pradesh in condemning brutal killing
of local journalist and RTI activist Raghavendra Bajpai in Sitapur on March 8. Acco to
reports he was shot at three times by the killers on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway
in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur . The victim, was a local correspondent of Dainik Jagran, a
largest circulated Hindi Daily in Uttar Pradesh.
The UP police so far has arrested four Revenue Inspectors and two others on suspicion
of murder of the journalist. It was learnt from our union sources that the deceased
journalist published a number of news items exposing a land scam where a section of
revenue inspector of Uttar Pradesh government were involved. IJU demands adequate
compensation to the family of Raghavendra Bajpai . IJU also urged the Uttar Pradesh
government to ensure security and safety of journalists in the state so that journalists can
do their duties without any fear.
In a statement IJU President and former member of Press Council of India Geetartha
Pathak and IJU Secretary General also Vice President of International Federation of
Journalists (IFJ) Sabina Inderjit said that killers of Raghavendra Bajpai must be brought
