JD NEWS VISION….
Adopted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting of the Indian Journalists
Union (IJU)…
Kozhikode, Kerala | April 24–25, 2026
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), meeting
in the historic city of Kozhikode, Kerala, expresses its profound grief, outrage, and
strongest possible condemnation regarding the unprecedented and systematic killing of
journalists and media workers in Palestine.
With over 260 media professionals killed since October 2023, the Gaza Strip has
become the deadliest zone for the press in modern history. The IJU views these actions
not as collateral damage, but as a deliberate attempt to silence the truth and establish a
“blackout” on the dire humanitarian crisis.
The NEC notes with horror the most recent targeted killings, including:
• Amal Khalil (April 22, 2026), a senior Lebanese journalist killed in a targeted
strike in southern Lebanon.
• Mohammed Wishah (April 8, 2026), an Al Jazeera correspondent killed by a
drone strike in Gaza City while performing his professional duties.
• Hossam Shabat, a young, courageous voice from northern Gaza, and countless
others who have been targeted while wearing clearly marked ‘PRESS’ vests.
The Indian Journalists Union makes a fervent appeal to journalist unions, press freedom
organisations, and civic bodies across the world to transcend borders and raise a
unified voice against these atrocities. We call for global solidarity to protect the lives of
those who risk everything to bring the truth to light.
The IJU reaffirms its unwavering support for Palestinian journalists and pledges to
continue its campaign for their safety, dignity, and the fundamental right to report…
