Imphal, 2nd April, : : In a remarkable act of professionalism and humanity, Dr. Loni Liriina, Consultant Critical Care at BABINA Hospital and American Oncology Institute (AOI) Imphal, successfully managed a critical medical emergency aboard an international flight, saving the life of a young passenger from Tamil Nadu mid-air.
The incident occurred on February 28, 2026, when Dr. Loni Liriina was travelling on an Air India flight from Tokyo to New Delhi. Responding to an urgent appeal for medical assistance, Dr. Liriina and another junior doctor onboard attended to a 21-year-old passenger experiencing severe chest pain and breathing difficulties. With limited resources, Dr. Liriina initiated emergency treatment, stabilizing the patient within 30 minutes.
“Any doctor would have done the same. I was simply doing my duty,” Dr. Liriina said.
The flight continued without needing an emergency landing, and the passenger was stable upon arrival in New Delhi. Fellow passengers and crew applauded Dr. Liriina’s swift action.
